The Three Asimovian Laws of Robotics

1) The robot can not, by action or inaction, cause harm to a human being.

2) Where Law 1 is not in conflict, the robot must obey any order issued by a human being.

3) Where Laws 1 & 2 are not in conflict, the robot must take all necessary steps to ensure its continued existence.

I’d guess the military programming might override the 2nd Law a little, restricting Digit to obeying the military chain of command first, and only in the absence of a proper, military chain of command, then obey civilians
