Most people have heard of the Washio clan. Their name doesn’t come up every day; but it floats about the news articles from time to time; special consultants to the higher ups in the military, government and science fields. The family has played a part in fighting against alien incursions for many generations now, and as a result it has earned the respect of those who are a part of the battle. Too many fine members of the family have been tragically lost, usually in an effort to protect others.
Dan Washio is a widower who lost his father, wife and son on the colony world of Pern in an outbreak of listeriosis caused by contaminated food processing equipment, and exacerbated by a lack of access to proper medicines. Although the cephalopods weren’t directly responsible, he still holds them accountable, since the medicines would have been easily accessible once upon a time.
He himself was offworld, as was often the case, working with the military as a consultant. Exactly what he does is never entirely clear; though he’s known to be a highly capable mech pilot and handy to have around in a fire-fight.
His brother, Quentin is the current head of the Washio family, after the death of their father Ryuusuke (I) which means the spotlight which once shone on Dan, as the second son of the family’s head, has faded a little, leaving him in relative obscurity.
He was assigned to the UNSF Albatross as a military support specialist, and had a high-end fighter mech in one of the bays, and spent a great deal of time maintaining it, when he was not actually flying an escort for the Albatross.
Currently listed as M.I.A., his last known whereabouts was aboard the UNSF Albatross as she went down. If alive, he may be a prisoner of the Cephalopods, or their Tyrahn masters, or worse, may be a hulker, however when last seen, he was intending to make a bid to flee the out-of-control ship, and may have been making for either an escape pod, or the fighter bays, intending to rescue his mech.
